By Pete Rizzo
How do you follow up a landmark album as seismically successful as the Black Album?! If you are the guys in Metallica, you do (pardon me, Monty Python) something completely different. In their case, they released “Load”, which turns 20 this month.
It left lots of fans scratching their heads and others absolutely apoplectic in their hatred of “Load”. I was definitely not one of the haters. Was it different? Yes. I was one of the head scratchers when I first listened to the cassette of the album that I brought. But I liked a lot of the material that made it onto the album.
Among my favorites were the scorching opener,…
,…the first single,…
,…and the closing track, the “S&M” version of which I really dug.
How about you? What were your favorite tunes off of “Load”?
About the Author
Hi, I'm Pete Rizzo, early morning elixir for your weekends. I love music and I love talking about it. I grew up listening to bands like Rush (best band on the planet!), Van Halen (Diamond Dave all the way), AC/DC (Bon rules!) and Genesis (the Gabriel years). But my true love is progressive rock and heavy metal. The louder, crunchier, more bombastic and self-indulgent, the better! When I’m not on the air, I’m either training in martial arts, deciding which tattoo I should get next, reading a good book (I still enjoy turning actual pages), or my wife and I are planning our next big travel excursion. I’m on every Saturday and Sunday morning. You can also follow me on on Twitter @PeteRizzoWBAB. I’d love to hear from you.
