How do you follow up an institution like the Fab Four?! Paul McCartney took to the air in answering that question 45 years ago.
McCartney’s new band, Wings, made their live debut at the University of Nottingham in England as part of a tour of UK colleges. It was the first time McCartney played on a live stage since 1966 with the Beatles before they became studio hermits with their last few outstanding albums leading to their acrimonious breakup. This video discusses the origins of Wings.
While certainly not on par with the Beatles catalog (then again, what band could possibly measure up?!), the Paul McCartney & Wings song catalog is impressive in and of itself. This was the first Wings tune I remember hearing on the radio when I was all of 5.
As for my favorite Paul McCartney & Wings tune, I always had a soft spot for this tune,..
,…with this classic a close second.
How about you? What Wings tune qualifies as your favorite?
Hi, I'm Pete Rizzo, early morning elixir for your weekends.
I love music and I love talking about it. I grew up listening to bands like Rush (best band on the planet!), Van Halen (Diamond Dave all the way), AC/DC (Bon rules!) and Genesis (the Gabriel years). But my true love is progressive rock and heavy metal. The louder, crunchier, more bombastic and self-indulgent, the better!
When I’m not on the air, I’m either training in martial arts, deciding which tattoo I should get next, reading a good book (I still enjoy turning actual pages), or my wife and I are planning our next big travel excursion.
I’m on every Saturday and Sunday morning. You can also follow me on on Twitter @PeteRizzoWBAB. I’d love to hear from you.
