Now Guns ‘n’ Roses and the Eagles aren’t two acts I could see gelling, but one of rock’s more unusual pairings took place back in 1989 thanks to Axl.
As unusual as they may seem, rock and roll odd couples do work. The one I always refer to as the measuring stick of rock and roll odd couples is the duet between David Bowie & Bing Crosby.
Another famed one for me is the pairing of Elton John & Axl Rose, in part because to questions over how they’d coexist following the backlash over GNR’s tune “One in a Million”,…
,…any doubts as to their mutual respect were quickly dispelled two years later when Axl himself inducted Sir Elton into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Two of my personal favorites are below,…
How about you? What’s your favorite rock and roll odd couple?
About the Author
Hi, I'm Pete Rizzo, early morning elixir for your weekends. I love music and I love talking about it. I grew up listening to bands like Rush (best band on the planet!), Van Halen (Diamond Dave all the way), AC/DC (Bon rules!) and Genesis (the Gabriel years). But my true love is progressive rock and heavy metal. The louder, crunchier, more bombastic and self-indulgent, the better! When I’m not on the air, I’m either training in martial arts, deciding which tattoo I should get next, reading a good book (I still enjoy turning actual pages), or my wife and I are planning our next big travel excursion. I’m on every Saturday and Sunday morning. You can also follow me on on Twitter @PeteRizzoWBAB. I’d love to hear from you.
