Another ‘Idol’ Alum Is Feeling the Noize

By Pete Rizzo

James Durbin

Quiet Riot have had a tough time filling the formidable shoes of their late, great lead singer Kevin DuBrow. But it appears they have found a suitable replacement from a somewhat unusual place,… “American Idol”. James Durbin, who appeared in Season 10 of the show and made it to the Final Four, is the new lead singer of Quiet Riot. And he’s someone that DuBrow’s own brother is proudly endorsing.

This isn’t the first time an ‘American Idol’ contestant has the opportunity to rub shoulders with  rock and roll greatness, as Adam Lambert is so deftly doing with Queen.

Not surprisingly, it’s inviting lots of criticism from metal fans. But color me not one of them. I think this is a potential win-win for both band and new singer. Having a popular contestant in Durbin fronting a legendary band could open up a whole new audience for them. Plus it gives Durbin instant rock star cred in much the same way it did Lambert. It also helps when you have a set of pipes that can knock Steven Tyler’s socks off.

Plus, Durbin’s no stranger to singing the heavy stuff as he proved with this Judas Priest classic, not to mention belting the Sammy Hagar tune “Heavy Metal” alongside Zakk Wylde.

I’d personally love to hear how he tackles my favorite Quiet Riot tune.

Thoughts?
