Whether you enjoy Seth Meyers’ late night talk show or not (count me in the former camp), I will say this about the man. He has amazing taste in guest drummers! This past week was another great example. Behind the kit for the Fred Armisen-led 8G band for this week’s shows was Anthrax legend Charlie Benante.
This after Iron Maiden’s Nicko McBrain sat in with 8G last week.
Other drummers extraordinaire who have come by for an extra special visit include Danny Carey of Tool, Primus’ Tim Alexander and a guy who’s become another favorite of mine, Brann Dailor from Mastodon.
This is not the first Big-Four drummer Seth has had on his show, with former Slayer thrash master Dave Lombardo doing his thing with 8G late last year.
That leaves Dirk Verbeuren of Megadeth and the one and only Lars Ullrich of Metallica to complete Seth Meyers’ Big Four 8G master class sit-in. Fingers crossed!
About the Author
Hi, I'm Pete Rizzo, early morning elixir for your weekends. I love music and I love talking about it. I grew up listening to bands like Rush (best band on the planet!), Van Halen (Diamond Dave all the way), AC/DC (Bon rules!) and Genesis (the Gabriel years). But my true love is progressive rock and heavy metal. The louder, crunchier, more bombastic and self-indulgent, the better! When I’m not on the air, I’m either training in martial arts, deciding which tattoo I should get next, reading a good book (I still enjoy turning actual pages), or my wife and I are planning our next big travel excursion. I’m on every Saturday and Sunday morning. You can also follow me on on Twitter @PeteRizzoWBAB. I’d love to hear from you.
