These were my thoughts exactly upon hearing that a biopic is officially in the works for a rock band I felt should have received one a long time ago, Lynyrd Skynyrd.
“Street Survivors: The True Story of the Lynyrd Skynyrd Plane Crash” began shooting this week. The film will focus on the tragic plane crash that killed Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines, backup singer Cassie Gaines and three others from the point of view of former drummer Artimus Pyle, who survived the crash.

This month 30 years ago marked the premiere of something far different than what we were accustomed to seeing on MTV going back to the days of The Buggles’ “Video Killed the Radio Star”. It was the first episode of “Headbangers Ball”.
Launched on April 18, 1987, “Headbangers Ball” was actually spun off from “Heavy Metal Mania”, a monthly segment hosted by Dee Snider two years earlier. It dawned on me recently how often the Kansas classic “Carry On Wayward Son” has been covered when I caught wind of Anthrax’s version online. They are the latest band of many to tackle the tune (and rather ably at that).

Saturday Night Live’s most prestigious hosting fraternity will be adding a few new members over the next few weeks.
On the heels of Scarlett Johannson’s entry into the Five-Timers Club last month, SNL is closing out their 42nd season by adding three more celebrities into the club. This on the heels of SNL’s most successful season in years and news that they will be broadcasting live throughout the country.
Doing the honors this weekend is a guy who has emerged as a favorite host of SNL’s in Louie CK, who can spin a mighty fine monologue to start the show.
