By Pete Rizzo
I can’t rejoice in the start of my 44th year on this earth without a look back to the year I was born along with the tunes and albums that dominated 1973: Among my more memorable ones was this guy, who had the number one song in the country the week I was born with this sublime piece of music-making.
Released the day I was born. “Chicago VI” soon went to #1 driven partly on the strength of this tune (my all-time Chicago favorite):
Among my favorite discs of the year are this standout by The Who:
And don’t even get me started on this behemoth by Pink Floyd:
How about you? What rock tunes and albums ruled the charts the year you were born?
About the Author
Hi, I'm Pete Rizzo, early morning elixir for your weekends. I love music and I love talking about it. I grew up listening to bands like Rush (best band on the planet!), Van Halen (Diamond Dave all the way), AC/DC (Bon rules!) and Genesis (the Gabriel years). But my true love is progressive rock and heavy metal. The louder, crunchier, more bombastic and self-indulgent, the better! When I’m not on the air, I’m either training in martial arts, deciding which tattoo I should get next, reading a good book (I still enjoy turning actual pages), or my wife and I are planning our next big travel excursion. I’m on every Saturday and Sunday morning. You can also follow me on on Twitter @PeteRizzoWBAB. I’d love to hear from you.
