Must watch ”coming of agers” as back-to-school nears

The coming of age high school movie is one that still appeals to me to this day. And the genre as a whole just hasn’t been the same in a long time. Then again it’s hard to top some of the great movies of the day. Not surprisingly, two of my favorites made the cut with this one probably as my favorite:
“Sixteen Candles” is a close second thanks largely to Anthony Michael Hall,…
,…and Geddy Watanabe (as Long Duk Don)
One coming of age flick I don’t think gets the credit it deserves is ‘3 O Clock High’. I always get a kick out of seeing a bully get their brass-knuckled comeuppance and few did it better than Casey Siemaszko as Jerry (“NYPD Blue” fans, he was asshole IAB investigator Captain Fraker).
Well, I can think of one movie that did it not only better but did it twice in one sequence; 1980’s “My Bodyguard”. I still get a rush out of seeing Ricky and Clifford give Mike and Moody their just desserts.
How about you? What’s your favorite coming of age high school flick?
Hi, I'm Pete Rizzo, early morning elixir for your weekends.
I love music and I love talking about it. I grew up listening to bands like Rush (best band on the planet!), Van Halen (Diamond Dave all the way), AC/DC (Bon rules!) and Genesis (the Gabriel years). But my true love is progressive rock and heavy metal. The louder, crunchier, more bombastic and self-indulgent, the better!
When I’m not on the air, I’m either training in martial arts, deciding which tattoo I should get next, reading a good book (I still enjoy turning actual pages), or my wife and I are planning our next big travel excursion.
I’m on every Saturday and Sunday morning. You can also follow me on on Twitter @PeteRizzoWBAB. I’d love to hear from you.
