Sorry, but Ed Sheeran, Miley Cyrus and Kendrick Lamar just doesn’t have the same cachet for me as, say, Fleetwood Mac, Steve Miller or Black Sabbath. Which is why even days after the insufferable MTV Music Video Awards, I found myself looking through old videos of the old ABC show “In Concert” that launched 45 years ago and in time spun off “Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert”.
The first episode featuring Alice Cooper actually taped this month back in 1972 right here on the island at Hofstra University.
In the three years that the initial show ran, they brought on some great bands to perform on the show, among them Eagles (damn I love their vocal harmonies!) and Joe Walsh,…
,…and I think one of the cooler editions of this show I’ve seen, a pre-Stevie and Lindsey appearance by Fleetwood Mac,…
,…and of course, KISS made the cut.
How about you? What are your memories of “In Concert”?
Hi, I'm Pete Rizzo, early morning elixir for your weekends.
I love music and I love talking about it. I grew up listening to bands like Rush (best band on the planet!), Van Halen (Diamond Dave all the way), AC/DC (Bon rules!) and Genesis (the Gabriel years). But my true love is progressive rock and heavy metal. The louder, crunchier, more bombastic and self-indulgent, the better!
When I’m not on the air, I’m either training in martial arts, deciding which tattoo I should get next, reading a good book (I still enjoy turning actual pages), or my wife and I are planning our next big travel excursion.
I’m on every Saturday and Sunday morning. You can also follow me on on Twitter @PeteRizzoWBAB. I’d love to hear from you.
