A Def Leppard legend scored his gig with the Leps thanks to a little Southern rock.
Steve Clark officially joined Def Leppard 40 years ago thanks to his audition piece, the Lynyrd Skynyrd classic “Freebird”, as Joe Elliott reminisces about roughly five minutes into this clip.
His time with Def Leppard was tragically short as he passed away almost 13 years to the day he joined Def Leppard at the all too young age of 30. But oh how memorable it was!
As for my favorite Steve Clark performance, I have to go with the first time much of the world saw the Leps on TV. His guitar solo in “Hello America” is short, potent and eminently memorable.
Close second would have to go to this “High & Dry” classic.
How about you? What’s your favorite Steve Clark performance?
