Who says you can’t go home?! U2 certainly dispelled that saying recently by coming back to the city that welcomed them to the US nearly 40 decades ago.
Now the distance between Harlem’s Apollo Theater and what would we call Webster Hall these days is over 100 blocks. No matter! Nearly 38 years ago, U2 made the first of what would turn into several appearances at The Ritz.
They looked more like this during their formative, pre-world conquering days,…
,…here are they doing one of my favorite tunes of theirs at The Apollo show a few nights ago.

There are advantages to going out on top, just ask the guys in The Police.
Sting’s desire not to turn the band into a nostalgia act by sticking around too long led to “Synchroncity”, which came out 35 years ago this month, being their final album together. Not only did they go out at their creative crest then, but their reunion tour from over a decade showed that they did not miss a beat at all.
Flash to today and there is a new tribute album of Police covers due out soon, with some members of Journey taking a stab ([More]

“There is no darkness without light. Try to be willing to let it find you.”
These are the words of Dave Navarro following the suicide of Anthony Bourdain recently. And I couldn’t agree more. I only regret that I took so long to allow myself to believe it.
If you have been in that dark place yourself, this letter is a must-read.

Keith Moon’s maniacally powerful contributions to The Who cannot be overstated even now, nearly 40 years after his death.
It was around this time in 1978 that Moon the Loon sat behind the kit in front of an audience for what would turn out to be the final time with The Who, four months before he passed away.
While a far cry from his drum-bashing heyday,…
,…Moonie still embodies the fire of the Who in these clips from Shepperton.
This version of ‘Won’t Get Fooled Again’ still ranks as one of my favorites from The Who with Moonie providing the aforementioned fire, Roger [More]

What can I say?! I love me a good mash-up! And my criteria often is the more disparate the genres that are being mashed up, the more potential is has to be either a real winner,… or a real stinker.
This mashup combining “Use Me” by Bill Withers and my all-time favorite song from Pantera, “Mouth For War”, is a winner!!
Check it out and let me know what you think.

What has happened to the quality of summer songs?! Seems like the more time and money is spent marketing these tunes, the worse they get! Luckily a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band has come along to remind us that the rockin’ summer tune is very much alive and well.
Cheap Trick have a new tune out now tailor-made for the summer called, fittingly, The Summer Looks Good On You. And it’s really good!
Cheap Trick’s contribution brings back to mind some of the my favorite summertime tuneage and the cool memories they evoke, whether inside my old Bronco enjoying [More]

“Ice Ice Baby” drew the ire of many a Queen fan (myself included) back in the day when that travesty was released. But what did one Freddie Mercury think when he heard Vanilla Ice’s tune for the first time?
According to his former assistant, Freddie got stopped in mid-bite of his breakfast when “Ice Ice Baby” came on. Check out the full story here.
Given Freddie’s sense of humor, his reaction does not surprise me.

While Neil Peart is off enjoying retirement and making a name for himself as a darn good author, Alex Lifeson may be attempting to take over another medium altogether.
In addition to doing some writing of his own with a monthly newspaper column, Alex is headed to TV-land with a part in a show that airs in Canada called Crawford.
The show has a very quirky “Northern Exposure” -esque feel to it, which sounds perfect for Lerxst’s offbeat and often very funny sense of humor,…

Relations between KISS’ classic lineup have been up and down, to say the least, for much of their history. But these days Ace and Gene are definitely making nice.
Gene helped out Ace recently on his new album and even gave him the title for it, which fittingly Ace is calling Spaceman and it coming out later this year.
Now this is a far cry from the infamous Tom Snyder interview from 1979,…
My lasting memories were Ace’s cackle, of course (how could you not love it?!) and how increasingly pissed Gene and Paul looked during Ace’s laughing fits.
